Reflector Disk Project

In class, we used a light reflection disk to see how different a shot can be with and without one. It can be used to correct poor lighting while filming when a reporter must have their back to the sun. The reflector tends to be on the side or in front of the reporter.

I worked with my classmates Bradley, Jalyn and Rj to complete the assignment. We went outside the classroom to shoot our shots.

I used Jalyn as my reporter for my shot. The first image I am going to display shows how the lighting looked without the reflection disk.

In the first picture you can see how the sun is making it hard to have a clear shot of our reporter.  The next picture will show the picture of us using the reflector disk.

This picture is us using the reflector disk. As you can see, the lighting has increased, and our target is clearer.

I also went and took a picture from each angle that shows the standpoint of the camera man, the person holding the reflector and the reporter.

Here is a picture of the reflector light we used. The disk holder for this project was Bradley.

This is a wide shot from behind the disk holder (Bradley.)

This is the wide shot from behind our cameraman (Rj.)

This was a fun and engaging project to work on. I enjoyed learning a new way to enhance lighting in shots outside of digital editing. I would see the light reflectors be used in movies or TV shows, but I never understood how they worked until now.

I read about the different reasons why people should have a light reflector disk. Give it a look!
