Three-Point Lighting Project

In class we completed a project using a three-point lighting system. This project was to demonstrate the use of multiple studio lights. We used three types of studio lights, a key light, a back light, and a fill light.

I used my classmate, Bradley Hubbard as my subject. I had him sit in the middle where I took six photos.

The first photo will be a wide shot showing the setup with Bradley sitting in the middle of it.

This is before we added any lighting.

The next image will consist of a close up shot of the subject.

This is also before we added any lighting. The next image will consist of the key light.

This image shows only our key light being used. The key light is the primary light source for your photo. It is often place in front of the subject. The next image will use both the key light and fill light.

This image is using both the key and fill light. The fill light is helpful in reducing shadows and contrast. It also creates a more balanced and appealing image. If you compare the right side of Bradley to the first close up, you can see how the shadow disappears.

The final close-up picture is going to display the key, fill and back light.

In this photo all of the lights are being used. The back light is the light that is behind the subject. This is used to clean up the lining and add a rim around the edge of your pictures. It is also known as the hair light or edge light. Each light is highlighting a different aspect of the picture.

The final picture will show a wide shot of all the lights on with the subject still in the middle.

This is the final look after using every light. This assignment taught me about the fill and back light. I've heard of the key light and what it does, but I did not know how the fill and back light added more to your picture.

Reflector Disk Project

In class, we used a light reflection disk to see how different a shot can be with and without one. It can be used to correct poor lighting while filming when a reporter must have their back to the sun. The reflector tends to be on the side or in front of the reporter.

I worked with my classmates Bradley, Jalyn and Rj to complete the assignment. We went outside the classroom to shoot our shots.

I used Jalyn as my reporter for my shot. The first image I am going to display shows how the lighting looked without the reflection disk.

In the first picture you can see how the sun is making it hard to have a clear shot of our reporter.  The next picture will show the picture of us using the reflector disk.

This picture is us using the reflector disk. As you can see, the lighting has increased, and our target is clearer.

I also went and took a picture from each angle that shows the standpoint of the camera man, the person holding the reflector and the reporter.

Here is a picture of the reflector light we used. The disk holder for this project was Bradley.

This is a wide shot from behind the disk holder (Bradley.)

This is the wide shot from behind our cameraman (Rj.)

This is the wide shot from behind Jalyn (reporter.)

This was a fun and engaging project to work on. I enjoyed learning a new way to enhance lighting in shots outside of digital editing. I would see the light reflectors be used in movies or TV shows, but I never understood how they worked until now.

I read about the different reasons why people should have a light reflector disk. Give it a look!

Action Sequence Project

In class we learned about action sequences, and we even got a chance to shoot our own! I worked with Dallas to create an action sequence for class, and we filmed it as a student heading to class to give a presentation.

Throughout this assignment, I've learned about the importance of angles in filming and how it makes a scene. This is something that I can definitely use in the future.

I really appreciate Dallas for working on this assignment with me! He was great to work with. I cannot wait to see the video he produced of me!

I used the "Melodic Type Beat - Family" by LIL JAMMY on YouTube for the background music.

Five Questions in Four Parts

Hey y'all! I had the opportunity to record an interview between two of my classmates RJ Steadman & Jalyn Woodbury for a class assignment.

In this assignment, I learned how to film two shot interviews, close ups, and how important it is to capture listening shots. This was a fun assignment that I enjoyed and hope to do something like this in the future! Take a look at the interview below!!!

In this project, I learned about getting listening shots so that you have clips to include in your video so that your audience is able to see the interviewer engaging.

Check out the interview!!!

POS Interview

Hey y'all! I went out to speak with students about what improvements they want to see on campus excluding our housing situation. While that is a big issue at hand, there is not much we can do as students for it. So, I wanted to know what other concerns did students have about our campus. Check out the video below!!!

This assignment did help me to understand the importance of getting different perspectives along with different locations. This keeps the audience attention while also giving them different viewpoints to think on. Let me know what concerns you have about the campus down below!

Me in 30 seconds

In class, we filmed 30 second clips of ourselves talking about who we were and what we want to do after graduation. In this post I will share the unedited version and the edited version where I added music and a title card.

    < Unedited version
The second video that has been uploaded is the edited version. In this video, I have been able to add a caption that tells you my name and the school I attend. I also added background music into my video as well.
edited version >
This assignment I did not learn much because due to me working in broadcasting prior, I knew had to add these subjects into the video. But I did enjoy freshening up my skills after being away from it for some time.

Three Years @SC State❤️💙

I have been a bulldog since August of 2022, when I came to start my freshman year at South Carolina State University. I started off as a communications/journalism major, but then I switched over to broadcasting. I joined organizations such as Campus Activity Board and the Communications Club. Throughout these clubs, I learned about the importance of networking and getting yourself out there. Nobody will advocate for you like yourself. Truthfully, I did not want to come to college, I believed that I would not thrive there, that I would just be wasting my time. I was also scared of not making friends and having to navigate college alone. But life is truly nothing without taking a leap of faith (granted I didn't my mom did not give me a choice; I had to go to school lol.) I made friends that I still have in my senior year, and I've made valuable connections that I am still able to use now on campus. Through all of this, I finished my first year of college on the deans with a 3.6 GPA.

After my Probate
My sophomore year started off a little rough due to me being placed in housing that I was not happy with. After trying multiple solutions, I ended up having to just make the best out of a bad situation. I had a friend in the same situation, so we were able to talk about it and get through it together. Sophomore year was pretty calm. I stayed on top of my academics, made the dean's list with a 3.7 and pledged the greatest sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated!

Junior year started off pretty well, but then unfortunately I hit a bad slope and went into a depression. Trying to maintain a social life, while trying to stay on top of your classwork, and fighting something that you tried to deny was there was tough. I started to fall behind in my work, miss classes, party more, stay out late. This was very unlike me as a person who would not go out unless her work was done. I ignored the problem until it got to the point that I was not getting out of bed. I took a while to figure out something was wrong. Things that used to make me laugh, I would now look at with a straight face, I found myself zoning out more even with friends, not caring to submit work and losing interest in things I would love to do. I ignored it so long because I believed that I had nothing to be upset about. I had to realize that I cannot belittle my own feelings and issues and that I needed to talk to someone. I got into therapy and things started to get better. I would still have some of those days, but I improved a lot. My second semester went a lot better. I was on top of my work while maintaining my social life. I strived and did all I could and finished my junior year once again on the dean's list with a 3.7. I decided to share a little of this personal part of my life to say that it is okay to ask for help. Whether it be from a professional, a friend or family member, reach out and say something. You are never alone; someone will always be there for you<3

As I start my senior year, I am nervous yet excited about what is ahead at the end of my journey at SC State. I am grateful for the connections that I've made the past three years. Lifelong friendships and knowledge that I can take into the workforce that will grow my career. I am forever thankful for choosing to come to SC State, forever a loyal daughter❤️💙.
